InterNIT (Sweden) - www.internit.se

InterNIT is engaged in Research, Innovation, Development and Education projects within ICT for Ageing. InterNIT has a good track record in European projects, acting as Scientific Coordinator in the successful FP6 COGKNOW project (www.cogknow.eu), and managing Luleå University of Technology’s (LTU) role as core partner in Coordination Action AALIANCE (www.aaliance.eu).

InterNIT manages the significant innovation project MemoryLane (www.memorylane.nu).

InterNIT for several years provided vocational training and has a close affiliation with E-health Innovation Centre (EIC) at LTU, and the Department of Health Science with dementia research and yearly graduation of several hundred students in nursing, rehabilitation and care. InterNIT has a wide regional, national and European network.

AcrossLimits (Malta) - www.acrosslimits.com

AcrossLimits is a dynamic Maltese technology research SME with its roots firmly derived from the innovation and ICT sectors. In fact its core business is still centred on the areas of web-based solutions for business and educational purposes. However in the last years, AcrossLimits has diversified and now is made up of three main divisions, namely Technology, European projects and Education. AcrossLimits was established in June 2001 as a limited liability company, though its members already worked together developing IT systems since 1996 under a partnership agreement. AcrossLimits services a range of clients from a Maltese base but also from its representative offices in Italy, Spain and Greece in a variety of areas including eLearning, eHealth and Digital Cultural Heritage. It has participated in the last years in several commercial and EU projects related to solutions for the older generations – including those suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Synopsismedia is an awarded design studio based in Timisoara, Romania, specialized in providing quality services in the fields of: graphic design, corporate identity, informational design and visual branding. Established in 2001, Synopsismedia has designed innovative visual communication tools, branding campaigns, user interfaces for software and interactive tools, print and media promotional items for both international and Romanian clients. During the past years the Synopsismedia team has focused on clients from the cultural and educational field, providing their graphic design expertise for the promotion of cultural events and the development of educational items.

VILAU is a joint-venture of Alticast, INI-GraphicsNet, the EiTB group and Vicomtech. VILAU specialises in designing, developing and implementing interactive cross media communication solutions. Thanks to their cutting-edge technology, creativity and track record in the audiovisual sector, Vilau works with their clients to create tailor-made innovative projects. Complete solutions that include contents production and management.Their main solutions include: multiplatform projects (Internet, IPTV, iTV, Digital Signage, Mobile appliances), multimedia contents (3D, virtual reality, augmented reality, virtual flights, holographs…), technological platforms (Alticast solutions, digital contents managers, tailor-made resources for the TV&education market...) and interactive spaces (technology and creativity to interpret, promote and showcase the heritage, culture and history of a place).

Staffordshire University (England) - www.staffs.ac.uk

The Centre for Ageing and Mental Health at Staffordshire University has been established to provide research, consultancy and education and to promote innovation in health and social care services for the older person. The Centre intends to bring together researchers, clinicians and other health and social care professionals from a variety of fields to facilitate research both nationally and internationally. The Centre draws upon a strong network of nationally and internationally recognised researchers and clinicians as well as utilising the existing strengths of the research and consultancy expertise within the University. A key focus of the Centres work is the development of a robust high quality postgraduate education programme in the area of ageing and mental health. The centre provides a service for students within the faculty and acts as a resource for students enrolled on the MSc Ageing and Mental Health.

VU University Medical Center (The Netherlands) - www.vumc.nl

The VUmc (which is part of the VUA) is a university medical center (academic hospital with ambulant services) that focuses on patient care, scientific research and professional education. The VUmc has 733 beds, 2267 medical students and more than 300 lecturers. The dept. of Psychiatry, the dept. of Nursing home medicine and the Alzheimercenter of the VUmc have extensive research and practical expertise in the field of dementia. These departments have links to many organizations for the elderly and informal carers, such as the Dutch Alzheimer Organisation, and to community-dwelling people with dementia and their carers. In this project the VUmc will bring in its domain expertise on dementia; the impact of dementia on carers; the development, evaluation and implementation of support programmes for persons with dementia and carers; human-computer interaction; user-driven development of assistive technologies and methodology of evaluation with users in field trials.

I+ (Italy) - www.i-piu.it

I+ is an Italian SME working in the e-health and Ambient Assisted Living systems at National and European level. I+ provides distributed software platforms enabling to perform monitoring and management of clinical parameters, users’ requests and behaviours, environments and personal alarm. The platforms are able to provide users with a multi-channel and multi-devices communication, according to specific service models. Moreover I+ has a relevant experience in the setting up of e-health service models and Ambient Assisted Living contexts, besides stakeholders’ training activities (including caregivers affecting to Dementia and Alzheimer’s diseases). At the same time I+ is able to provide a methodology for the integrated assessment of the services’ innovation impact, both in terms of technology reliability, and clinical, socio-economical issues.

The Smart Environments Research Group competencies include the development of assistive technologies, pervasive and mobile computing and medical decision support systems. The SERG has a large scale Intelligent Environment with the following key features: 4 dedicated smart labs, large suite of pervasive sensing technologies, image capture and motion analysis facilities and a large suite of computing and software resources.
